Airlifting emergency supplies to China and Myanmar
In response to the humanitarian needs of the Sichuan earthquake disaster, on 1 June, DHL leveraged on its core competency in logistics by operating its chartered flight to transport relief supplies from Hong Kong to Chengdu in China for two aid agencies – the Hong Kong Red Cross and the Crossroads Foundation.
Relief items including medical gloves, waterproof fabrics, blankets, sleeping bags, temporary shelters, and other resources have reached the Red Cross Society in Sichuan Province to help relieve the emergency situation.
DHL hopes its commitment to providing immediate assistance as well as its efforts and skill set can help alleviate the difficulties faced by the victims.
Employees across DHL also responded swiftly and passionately through donations. In Hong Kong, including the company matching, DHL Hong Kong employees raised over HKD 500,000 and all donations went to the Hong Kong Red Cross. In China, over RMB 1 million on top of RMB 1 million from DHL China was raised.
DHL also transported supplies from Portland to China and Myanmar on behalf of Mercy Corps to address medical, health, water and sanitation needs. |
